Foods to Increase Your Omega-3

One of the best foods that I know to increase your omega-3 levels id salmon, preferably wild salmon. The reason I say wild salmon is that farmed Salmonsalmon are often fed grains which contain high levels of omega-6. Omega-6 in high amounts is an inflammatory and can cancel out the effects of omega-3. What I love about salmon is that is not only has omega-3 but it is also packed with vitamins and protein. 100g of salmon is equal to 40%of your daily protein intake. Other added benefits of salmon are that it is low in kilojoules and cholesterol. Earlier I mentioned that salmon was also packed with vitamins, these are vitamin D and B12.

What I love about salmon is that it is easy to prepare and cook, you can barbecue it, pan fry it, bake it, stir fry it, poach it, steam it and with a salad makes a really easy and quick meal. In reality we should eat fish at least twice a week. You may say that salmon is expensive and it is if you buy it per fillet portion. I have found that buying a whole salmon and having it filleted at the local fish shop makes salmon so much more affordable. The other added advantage is that I can take the fish home and cut it into portions that are suitable for me.

As well as salmon there are some other omega-3 winners; Flaxseed, Walnuts, Fresh Basil and Edamame.

Think salmon next time you want to make a quick healthy and yummy meal.
